Cabot Vineyards

John and Kimberly Cabot set out to be self sufficient and live off of the land. After college on the Humboldt coast they moved inland where more fruits and vegetables could ripen. They grew a wide assortment of organic produce and marketed it through Northern California retailers and Farmer’s Markets. Ten years of growing experience on the Klamath River in Northern California nurtured within them a deep respect for the land. They also developed a deep appreciation for red wine from their families. They set out to bring their love for growing, wine and the land together into one dream… They began planting wine grapes in 1998. It was exciting to pioneer an undiscovered wine area in California. The land is carved by narrow gorges and steep mountains making ideal vineyard sites rare little gems. They now have three small vineyards that they hand planted with small crews of locals. Each of the vineyards is individual and is meticulously tended in accordance with its unique needs.

F. Teldeschi Winery

*Tiny* building with beautiful scenery, Teldeschi let us venture into the back room to see all the Oak barrels with the sweet alcoholic juices we were imbibing. There's something to be said about a winery just being a place for wine.

Rowland Cellars

Rowland Cellars makes about 7,000 cases of wine a year from appellations in Napa and New Zealand. The Ramspeck family started making wine 450 years ago and the brand was re-introduced by Gerry and Linda Rowland in 1991. Their other two brands are Rowland and Cenay.
Ramspeck Pinot Noir is made in Napa County. I tasted a 2009 vintage and found it to be darker than most Pinot Noir wines. It had a strong fruit and tobacco bite to it initially, but further consideration showed softness and a smooth finish. I liked that it was different and it was complex. What really makes it special is that it’s not something that you can find at any store. It’s unique, and inconsistent, and only available in limited quantity.

Bjornstad Cellars

The wines, Pinot Noir's, range from garnet color to deeply colored (2009 Hellenthal Vineyard Pinot Noir) with a hint of blue at the edge of the glass. Complex aromas open slowly to show savory spices, pungent cedar and subtle earth. Dark, brooding fruit aromas suggest a bramble of wild blackberries. Flavors follow aromas on the palate with a sweet, round core of cherries. The palate weight is significant and the mouth coating tannins are firm, but yielding.

Iron Horse Vineyards

ron Horse is a great winery to visit on your tour of Sonoma. The winery is off the beaten path but the views are gorgeous on a clear day. You can do your tasting outside and take in the gorgeous views of the vineyard. If you want to sit down and enjoy a picnic you can find a gazebo on the opposite end of the facility. They have an amazing variety of sparkling wine (more than I have seen anywhere else I've been) and also some non-sparkling varieties as well. The staff were very friendly and attentive in spite of the fact that they were pretty crowded. After our tasting, we were able to take food we brought to their picnic pavilion to enjoy a snack before we left. Definitely worth a visit if you are in the area.
